Quincy Hydronic Technology, Inc. (QHT) of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was founded in 1983 to be involved in the new energy conservation field of hydronic technology to improve the efficiencies and reduce the emissions found in the American heating equipment market . “Our idea was to provide the best in high performance boilers, burners and radiant heat products.” We would enhance these systems by making them easily adaptable to the locally installed “pin-type” boilers and hot water baseboard systems that were and still are the predominant heating technology in North America.

To get the job done, QHT worked with American manufacturers of oil & gas burners, electronic control systems, metal cabinet producers and indirect water heater companies. “ We needed a more complete line and Biasi of Verona, Italy ( fit the bill. They had been manufacturing heating equipment since 1939 and are one of the premier foundries, steel radiator and wall mounted boiler manufacturers in the world. “ Furthermore, Biasi’s cast-iron, steel panel and tubular radiator products would complement existing American style heating systems in local installations around New England.

With the assistance of marketing professionals, QHT began to provide training and collateral materials to wholesale distributors for the Biasi multi-pass boilers and steel panel radiators. “Customers liked the idea that Biasi’s equipment was not a high end, European boiler system aimed at the expensive end of the market, but was a “middle-class” product line which everyone could afford. “Biasi offers the same construction, materials and features of the more pricey units, so how could we go wrong? When you combine our multi-pass boilers with American made oil or gas burners and indirect fired water heaters, for about the same price as a pin-type, tankless coil boiler, the customer can save 30% on their heating bills.”

We feel our colleagues in the heating industry need to ask themselves some hard questions as to what equipment they are offering. “The typical US boiler is of a “pin type”, single-pass design, which is 30-40 years old and carries about four times the water and iron compared to the multi-pass, Biasi boiler-block.” says Quincy “and not much has changed outside of jacket colors and swing doors. In the final analysis, the equipment you offer your customers really says a lot about your company’s approach to its customers. What would you think of a company that only offered to you old technology, or even worse, only the cheapest equipment available?”

In addition to expanding their market presence and distribution, QHT has introduced the Riva line of wall hanging gas boilers also produced by Biasi which encompasses both non-condensing and condensing designs. It’s compact size saves space while still offering the end user excellent efficiency. With great ease of installation and near silent operation, it is a natural choice for homeowners and installers alike. These boilers have allowed QHT to offer customers a solution for almost any job they take on. “You know, it is one thing to offer expensive, high performance equipment, however the real trick is making these systems available to everybody at reasonable prices.” Quincy believes that the relationship between Biasi and QHT has allowed the company to accomplish this feat, by putting QHT at the forefront of the high efficiency market.

In a time when oil prices are climbing higher and higher, QHT needed to offer the oil heating industry something better. This time the search took us to the Emerald Isles of Ireland where we found the Firebird boiler company ( Together with Firebird, QHT has adapted their condensing oil boiler design for the American market. From this collaboration was born the knockdown Popular and the packaged Utility boilers for the American market. While this might not be the first condensing oil boiler for the market, it is the first to offer 92% high efficiency at a reasonable price without special equipment requirements for the installer. QHT believes that the Firebird and future equipment developments utilizing recouperators will guide the oil /gas heat industry into the future.
